This video has been around for a little bit but we are posting it to show that you can play ripped games. The video is of Team Xecuter and Team Jungle successfully modding a Xbox 360 Slim. Evidence that the console has been patched and is ready to play ripped games.

Here are the facts about Modding your Xbox 360.

Why would you Mod an Xbox 360?
Mainly, people mod their Xbox 360s to play ripped backups of games. Also a lot of people pirate the software online using torrents or services that cost a fraction of the retail price.

How do I Rip and Burn Xbox 360 Backups
Just follow our Rip and Burn Xbox 360 Backups walkthrough.

Can a modded Xbox 360 provide a region free system?
We have yet to find a solution for this query so as it stands currently there is no way to make a system your system free of region restrictions. To clarify, an example of region restrictions Japanese games can’t be played on a American system.
This is only based upon our research, so there still might be a solution to this problem.

Is modding your Xbox 360 Illegal?
This has a complex answer so just read our other article Is Modding your Xbox 360 illegal.

People mod there systems in order to play pirated software which is obviously illegal but others want to mod for personal reasons like playing Ripped Backups of Xbox 360 Games. There is two kinds of modding: External Modding and Internal or software modding. External modding is when you alter the casing or look of your Xbox 360. This type of modding is legal in most situations. The modding that is more questionable is internal modding or modding the software running on the Xbox 360. It would seem that if it’s your property you have the right to do what you want to your console, counter-intuitively this is not the case. Due to DRM protection (Digital Rights Management) modding your system violates the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998. Therefore internal modding your system IS ILLEGAL.

If modding your Xbox 360 console is illegal then why do so many people do it? Since it has become illegal more people are jumping on the mod wagon. This is due to, just like other outlawed activities such as pirating movies and music, there is no enforcement as far as the law is concerned. There is of course exceptions; it is also illegal to performs these acts of modding for money. And there has been cases where people have been fined and arrested for having a system modding business. On the whole it is unclear what the penalty or punishment is for having a modded system.

After everything’s said and done people will continue to mod there Xbox 360 and other systems. It’s so easy to find resources on how to do it, and there are several reasons why modding a system benefits gamers. Some may be detoured by the legalities but ultimately it’s up to the gamer.

What scares you more than the 3 red lights? Perhaps bricking your own system? This may indeed be a fear you have if you have a modded system or are trying to play ripped copies of your Xbox 360 games. So if you have already downloaded Easy Backup, and you’re ready to play your burned games online, then just follow these steps and you will be online without any worries.

In order to play your backup copies of Xbox 360 games you will need to find a service other than Xbox Live. This may sound like a bad thing since Xbox Live is a good service but there is a very good substitute. Xlink Kai is a way to go online with any of your systems without logging into Xbox Live or the systems relative service. Go to Xlink’s Website to sign up and get started.

There you have it play your backup Xbox 360 games online with the peace of the mind that you wont brick your system.

If you intend on burning a Xbox 360 game (that you already own of course) your going to need more than just a common DVD burner. You see, the DVD’s that Xbox 360 games are burned on dual layer discs which allows the disc to hold more information. Luckily most computers come equipped with a dual layer or DL burner. For example most new iMacs and Sony Vaios come with a dual layer burner able to burn Xbox 360 games. Check the specifics of your burner, look for DVD RW + or – DL. If you do not have a computer with a dual layer burner then you will need to purchase one. It’s not a big deal though most are inexpensive. Just to clarify though currently it is not possible to burn a xbox 360 game without copying the game to a computer first or modifying the burner. Get started at the How to rip and burn your xbox 360 games page.

Well the main reason that comes to most people’s mind’s is obvious and were not going to say it (I don’t think BlockBuster and Gamefly would appreciate it). Besides that “unsaid reason” were looking into possible reasons to help understand why more and more people are backing up their video game library.

1. Just in Case

You never know what is going to happen to your games! Back in the day game’s were cartridges and they were safe from most wear and tear. I still have a lot of my Nintendo and Super Nintendo games completely unscathed. On the other hand my original (disc based) Playstation games haven’t faired quite as well. Scratches and smudges cover the surface of the bottom of most of my remaining discs. If you backed up your library you wouldn’t have to worry about ever losing your game library again. No more worry about the giant ring your Xbox 360 will give your game disc when you pick up the console while a game is spinning inside of the console. No more worry about the gradual scratches that accumulate while they spin inside their case.

2. System link, it hasn’t completely gone out of style!

System link? what is that crazy term? Split screen is becoming a more rare feature these days. Most developers only cater to online multiplayer. Oddly enough system link is still alive and it’s a feature most people overlook. If you rip and burn a copy of the game you are playing, another person can jump on another console and play along side with you. That’s just one way of kicking it old school.

3. Ummm

If you rent a game from BlockBuster you could just… hah, just kidding, that would be wrong. *cough

If you’re looking rip and create backups of your Nintendo Wii games there are several different ways of doing this. First off, this is not illegal as long as you have the game you are trying to rip and backup. Using a regular DVD burner without any specialized software to rip Wii games is not possible. Wii games have special protection that prevent consumers from ripping them. Soon, I’m sure that copying Wii games will be as common as burning DVDs or even CDs. Still, it is a very easy task to do.

The easiest no nonsense way of ripping Wii games is to purchase some software to decrypt and burn Wii discs. I have yet to find freeware that can do this task but the price of this ripping software is half the price of a Wii game, so it isn’t that bad. Anyway, check out Easy Backup. There are other programs but this one I found to be the easiest to use and works for Xbox 360 and PS3 too.

Another method is purchasing a DVD burner that is specially made for ripping and burning Wii games. Check out the LG GDR 8164B I don’t prefer this method because you need to spend money on an external burner. Also, there is a way to rig your external burner to make it think that it’s burning a regular DVD. The process is a little less than I deal since you have to dismantle your burner.

There you go, pretty easy.

Now you will have to drop a little bit of money for this but I find it’s worth it since it’s easy to use, fast and I don’t have to worry about finding random pieces of stolen software. There is also the possibility of modding your current DVD burning software, this can troublesome if your not real keen on working with code.

All in all you don’t need much more than a PC or Mac and some good software, and you can rip and backup your whole Xbox 360 game library.
