Well the main reason that comes to most people’s mind’s is obvious and were not going to say it (I don’t think BlockBuster and Gamefly would appreciate it). Besides that “unsaid reason” were looking into possible reasons to help understand why more and more people are backing up their video game library.

1. Just in Case

You never know what is going to happen to your games! Back in the day game’s were cartridges and they were safe from most wear and tear. I still have a lot of my Nintendo and Super Nintendo games completely unscathed. On the other hand my original (disc based) Playstation games haven’t faired quite as well. Scratches and smudges cover the surface of the bottom of most of my remaining discs. If you backed up your library you wouldn’t have to worry about ever losing your game library again. No more worry about the giant ring your Xbox 360 will give your game disc when you pick up the console while a game is spinning inside of the console. No more worry about the gradual scratches that accumulate while they spin inside their case.

2. System link, it hasn’t completely gone out of style!

System link? what is that crazy term? Split screen is becoming a more rare feature these days. Most developers only cater to online multiplayer. Oddly enough system link is still alive and it’s a feature most people overlook. If you rip and burn a copy of the game you are playing, another person can jump on another console and play along side with you. That’s just one way of kicking it old school.

3. Ummm

If you rent a game from BlockBuster you could just… hah, just kidding, that would be wrong. *cough
